7th grade is an important year for many reasons. Not only are high schools going to pay close attention to your 7th grade accomplishments, in 7th grade you have to pass the Constitution test. This year we will start our journey with the founding of America. We will then look at how the first Americans formed a government. This will lead us into the Constitution material. We will end the year with a study of slavery in America. Throughout the year we will seek to answer the following questions:
Sometime before Spring Break we will be taking the STATE MANDATED Constitution Test. You must pass this test to be promoted to high school. Don’t worry. I will give you everything you need to be successful. You just need to put the work in. More to come on this later.
Now that you are 7th graders, my expectations for you and of you are significantly increased. I expect that you will consistently engage in classroom conversations and will willingly share your thoughts, opinions, and ideas. I expect that you will complete all assignments on time. I expect that you will approach classroom discussions as a mature adolescent.
- How has America defined who belongs and who does not?
- Who has been included and excluded from America’s universe of obligation?
- What are the consequences of this inclusion or exclusion?
